The Coolest of Fall-Inspired Palettes

As we start to get closer to a new season, we are finding ourselves navigating towards cooler colors. Slate blues, deep-caramel/ mustards, and charcoals are filling up my Pinterest and I ain’t mad about it! While it may always be sunny in San Diego, I’m still inspired by the shift in seasons that you can’t help but see and feel. I love to see how these colors and inspiration seep into so many different elements of design - tile, lighting, bedding, fashion - you name it! - it’s always something to be noticed across the board. Enter: our cool fall-inspired mood board below. Enjoy!

Before & After: Mid-Century Meets South Park

Who’s ready for another juicy before & after?!

If you haven’t already seen the Mid-Century Meets South Park project, chchchchchcheck it out here. I got to design this bad boy from the inside out - revamping the exterior, all interiors, and furnishings the units converted to Airbnbs. There were three different layouts total amongst seven units, so I got to play around with kitchen configurations to make each space the most efficient. Now for the good stuff, lets check out the before & afters.

THE EXTERIOR

As you can see, the exterior needed some major love. The chain link fence had to go, and the landscaping needed a bit of a refresh to say the least. We were on the fence about going white or super dark with the exterior and decided to go bold, because why not?! We knew we wanted to add a pop of color in the doors, but went with a more subtle, light blue to create a stark contrast against the primarily dark exterior. Simple mid-century inspired exterior sconces were added to give that exterior the dash of flare that it needed, and we swapped out some old brick walkways to units with squares of concrete. The chain-link fence was removed and replaced with a more modern, horizontal wood slatted fence to modernize this building as a whole and add some warmth. Not too shabby if I do say so myself!

THE KITCHEN

As much as I love pink and maroon tile… said no one ever!!! The kitchen needed some major updating. We went with a classic shaker-style cabinet painted in a cool grey, calacatta quartz countertops, and vertically stacked and staggered subway tiles. With long term rentals, you want the design to be pretty dang timeless and simple so most people can really envision themselves in the space - and that’s pretty much my MO all the time anyways. We did spice things up with the upper shelving though - skipping the floating shelves or closed upper cabinets and going with these open box-style frames to add some interest. With this set up you still get two functional sets of shelving, and something a little different to spice things up.

THE BATHROOM

Now this bathroom was SUCH a fun one to update. With so much gray, charcoal, and white going throughout the property I wanted to do something fun in here. We designed a simple, custom floating wood bath vanity and went with a light-blue penny tile throughout the floor, shower dam, and shower floor, and a marble-looking porcelain subway tile on the shower walls. I added that little mid-century pop I wanted to include through these amazing black and brass cone sconces from Etsy.
